After over two months, I broke down and bought a cuppa Starbucks today.
*gasp*
I had really been into buying local coffee lately, from the obvious Peets to the awesome Coffee Society (which, I will add, is where we usually have Weblogger Meetups... there's one tomorrow night!). canadadrugs.com
Tonight, convenience ruled over me. There is a drive-thru Starbucks on the way to my class in Cupertino, so given my lack of time and craving for caffeine, I drive thru. What can I say, the beans were calling my name. At least I had the opportunity to try the newest concoction, the Peppermint Mocha. Pretty good... it made my lips feel all tingly.
I worry that I have been sucked back in. Damn those drive thrus.
What's *your* favorite way to have your coffee?
Kenya AA. That is the nectar of the gods. But many places here in the Land of Cows don't serve it anymore.
And I believe it is because of the much hated Starbucks.
Starbucks convinced everyone that "dark roasts" were the true coffees. And every other coffee shop followed suit around here.
Me hates the Starbucks. Me wants my prevcious Kenya AA.
transmitted by naladahc on November 20, 2002 04:59 AMTrader Joe's Italian Roast. Voom.
transmitted by zorgon on November 20, 2002 09:04 AMI KNOW that Starbucks!
I moved from San Jose to Washington DC the beginning of this year. I love reading blogs by people from the Bay Area.
Memories ... misty water colored memmmmorriieeeeess!
transmitted by tj on November 20, 2002 03:33 PMI try to avoid Starbucks whenever I can. Sometimes when the caffine jones comes around and I can't get to my favorites, I have to stop.
Mostly I like Cal Java

However, I just found out that Peet's is opening a shop in Chico this fall. Hmm maybe I will have to try.
transmitted by Lance on November 21, 2002 09:31 AMDon't you guys worry, I'm not on a Starbucks binge or anything. Peets all the way, baby. The problem is, that there is no Peets within 20 minutes of here. Fortunately, on is opening up along San Tomas Expwy really really soon!
In reference to nala's comment, it does suck that Starbucks is responsible for pushing away the local coffee houses and telling American tastebuds what coffee should taste like. Feh!
Like Lance, I will stop at the dreaded Green Seal if I have my caffeine jones and when it's a matter of not being able to find any of my local faves.
transmitted by courtney on November 21, 2002 12:17 PMStop it with the obscure coffee house references that I know! Lance, I know Cal Java ... but I'm more a fan of C.R. Beans. LOVE their Chocolate Chillers ... best in the country.
transmitted by tj on November 21, 2002 12:54 PMyou know i love my Peet's. :)
i've discovered recently that the Starbucks espresso drinks are actually drinkable, whereas their straight up coffee is typically pretty bad. i rarely order anything but regular coffee at coffee shops, so i never knew this. of course, the espresso drinks also cost twice as much. and regardless, Starbucks makes me hiss and boo.
i'll have to try some ultra-gourmet coffee sometime. like Kenyan or ... was it some other kind? the stuff that's like $40 a pound. problem is, i'd be scared of not brewing it well enough to bring out its full umph.
I like both coffee and espresso... Peet's is the way to go for all types of drinks, by far. I won't drink coffee at the Evil Green Seal, but the espresso isn't bad. Not enough to make me have it daily, tho.
Ultra-gourmet coffee... hmm. Wanna go halfsies on a pound? 100% Kona coffee is deelish. I was spoiled by that when living in Hawaii... especially with the price being a bit lower. ;)
