so by now, most of you in the know have heard the news.
yup, as expected, Apple has a new music service. It is, as advertised, "Downloads Done Right". I am all for it, since I am mostly against music pirates. Don't get me wrong, I love mix CD's and finding new music like everyone else, but I ain't for stealing music. I am glad that there is a service where we can selectively choose our songs individually and not have to shell out the price of a new CD. I dig that. Kinda like I dig eMusic, which I've been a subscriber of for about 4 years now. asterpharmacy.com
I'm a bit curious about the new AAC format, which is the format that the music files will be provided in. It is supposedly "virtually indistinguishable from the original uncompressed audio source".
And damn them for coming out with the cool new iPod a mere few months after I got mine. Rrrg.
I'm uber-pissed that the new iPod just came out. Being that the 10Gig is now the price of the old 5Gig and they have a groovy new design.
Once I buy a product either they upgrade it, drop the price, discountine it, release something new, modify it. It happened with my iBook (upgraded & price drop), happened with my iPod, and almost everything else I bought in the past year.

I'm not a Mac user, but I still think it's great they came out with the service. It'll be nice when they bring it to Windows, but most of the music I enjoy on a regular basis are from the more obscure bands/musicians (with the exception of TMBG). I don't expect to see any of their songs listed. :/
I, too, have heard great things about AAC, but have yet to actually get a sample of this supposed "miracle of music compression". It would be nifty, but it would make all of your iPods outdated again. *chuckle*

The thing that bugs me about this new music service is that they're going to charge $1 per song! How are they gonna steal away the P2P users already faithfully committed to Kazzah and some of the other flat rate pay sites? And what's the variety going to be like? I'm skeptical...I'll still buy an iPod just in spite all of you guys who already bought one and paid, essentially, more for less. HA HA HA!

If I can go to the Apple site and get a high speed download of a file whose quality I can expect to be not-sucky and only pay a dollar, whereas if I'm using LimeWire or Kazaa or Neo, it takes me a few hours to download it at trickle and end up with a bad copy of Madonna telling me to
Have to agree with Tom here. What you basically get for that 1$ per song is a guarantee that you'll be getting what you want in great quality. Heck, put 16 songs on a disc and you have a better song/price ratio than you'll find on retail CD's. If they ever expand their service to include all of my "out-of-the-way-band" favorites, I'd go for it.
